As we begin a new year, I was reflecting on the Student Information Surveys that I request the parents of the children in my class to complete. They are fairly basic but these questions really help me to get to know the kids quickly, and anything unique that may influence their learning. Sometimes just knowing certain events that are happening outside of school can really help to explain the behaviours you are observing in school.
I always enjoy reading these and I also believe it is a great way to start the parent-teacher relationship when you act on the information that they are provided because it brings the parents in as a critical piece of the system. It is always interesting to read these over a few times as you get to know your class and develop your own ideas as well.
